Mabamba Swamp excursion offers an incredible safari and wildlife experience for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. The Mabamba Swamp is a renowned wetland located in Uganda, East Africa. Listed as a wetland of importance since 2006 by the Ramsar Convention and rated one of the best places to spot the rare and elusive shoebill stork. It derives its name from its enormous shoe-shaped bill. It’s not only renowned for its Shoebill population but also for its diverse array of other birds species and interesting wildlife.
You will be picked early in the morning from Kampala/ Entebbe and transferred to Mabamba Swamp for the experience of the most sought-after bird in Uganda, starting early is important to have the best spotting of the notoriously elusive shoebill stork and other bird species. There you will be briefed by one of our professional birding guides, who will take you on the boat tour. The excursion usually lasts for 2 hours although the option of a full day is also possible. The swamp is a beautiful environment of papyrus plants and water lilies where shoebill usually hides and is known for feeding on lungfish. As you venture into the swamp you’ll navigate through intricate channels and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
Along the way, you will spot several different kinds of birds such as Gull-bill terns, White-winged terns, Grey-headed Gulls, Malachite Kingfisher, spur-winged and Papyrus geese, Crown hornbill and many more can be spotted here. After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe or continue with the day’s program.
