Laikipia Safari Cost: Conservancy Fees, Lodges and Flights

Ol Pejeta Conservancy Kenya

A Laikipia safari has three main costs: the conservancy fee, the lodge and the way you get there. In 2026 the fee is USD 110 per adult per day at Ol Pejeta and about USD 165 to 183 per adult per day at Lewa. Lodges run from USD 70 a night for one guest at The Stables inside Ol Pejeta (full board) to more than USD 1,000 per person per night at Borana Lodge, and a scheduled flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport adds roughly USD 150 to 400 each way per person.

This guide sets out each fee, rate and fare from official tariffs and rate pages, so you can see what a quote should contain. For where to go and what you will see, start with our Laikipia conservancies guide. For a priced example, the 8-day Ol Pejeta, Masai Mara and Amboseli safari starts from USD 10,270 per person. Entice prices are from-prices and depend on season, group size and lodge choice.

Conservancy fees by place

Each conservancy sets its own fee, and several do not publish one. The figures below are non-resident rates, which is what most overseas visitors pay. East African residents pay far less, in shillings.

Conservancy Non-resident fee What to know
Ol Pejeta Adult USD 110, child (3 to 11) USD 55, student USD 32 per day Covers an all-day game drive (7 am to 7 pm) and the chimpanzee sanctuary; vehicle entry up to 6 seats KES 1,000
Lewa About USD 165 to 183 per adult per day; child USD 92 Lewa’s own site publishes no fee; lodges charge it inside or on top of the rate
Loisaba Not published Ask whether the fee is in your quote
Segera, Mugie, Sosian, Ol Jogi, Suyian Not published on the pages we checked Priced through the lodge; ask what is included

Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta’s fee page lists the rates above. A ticket covers a full day of game driving and the Sweetwaters chimpanzee visits (8:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm), but leaving and re-entering means paying again. Hiring a conservancy driver-guide vehicle costs KES 28,000 for a half day or KES 35,000 for a full day. Night drives run in two slots, 7 to 9 pm and 9 to 11 pm, and need booking a day ahead. Camping requires an armed ranger at KES 5,000 per ranger per night.

Lewa and Borana

Borana’s 2026 rate sheet puts a visit to Lewa at USD 183 per adult and USD 92 per child, rising to USD 200 and USD 100 in 2027. Earlier years listed USD 134 and USD 67. Elewana Lewa Safari Camp quotes USD 165 per adult per day, and one lodge page lists a lower figure still, so ask your lodge for the amount it will charge.

Why fees often sit inside lodge rates

Borana Lodge’s all-inclusive rate carries a 24 percent contribution to Borana Conservancy, yet a visit to Lewa from there is charged separately. Elewana’s Lewa Safari Camp rate sheet lists conservancy fees as their own line. Two quotes for the same nights can therefore differ by USD 165 to 183 per adult per day. Compare like with like.

Fees last verified: October 2026. Ol Pejeta’s page shows no effective date, and the same adult fee appeared in its 2025 tariff, so confirm before you pay.

Lodge costs by type

Few Laikipia lodges publish rates, so this table shows what sources state and says where no price is public. Our guide to lodges and camps by conservancy covers each property.

Type Examples Published price signal
Basic lodging and camping inside Ol Pejeta The Stables; campsites such as Ewaso, Hippo Hide and Mbogo The Stables: USD 70 single, USD 140 double, USD 35 child sharing, full board per night, entry fee extra; no game-drive vehicle provided
Tented camps and cottages on Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters Serena Camp, Porini Rhino Camp, Ol Pejeta Bush Camp No public rate in our sources; priced in your itemised quote
All-inclusive conservancy lodges Borana Lodge, Sirikoi Lodge, Lewa House Borana Lodge: USD 1,025 standard or USD 1,320 peak per adult per night; minimum 2 or 3 nights
Exclusive-use houses and private camps Ol Jogi House, Galago Private Canvas at Loisaba Not published in our sources
Community-owned lodges Il Ngwesi Eco-Lodge, Tassia Lodge Not published; at Il Ngwesi, 40 percent of the eco-lodge’s profit goes to community projects

Season matters. Borana’s peak rate (15 June to 30 September and 20 December to 5 January) is about 29 percent above its standard rate, and the standard adult rate moves to USD 1,040 in 2027. A single guest pays USD 1,716 in peak and USD 1,333 in standard. An exclusive vehicle adds USD 350 per vehicle per day, which is easier to carry split between four people than between two.

Flights or road

Destination By road from Nairobi By air from Wilson Airport
Ol Pejeta About 220 km, 4 to 4.5 hours Fly to Nanyuki or the Kamok airstrip; Nanyuki takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes
Lewa and Borana About 4 hours About 45 minutes to 1 hour to Lewa Downs, then 15 to 40 minutes to camp
Loisaba Roads via Nanyuki or Nyahururu About 1 hour, then about 15 minutes to the lodge

Safarilink and Air Kenya fly these routes from Wilson Airport. The estimate of USD 150 to 400 one way per person comes from a safari-transport guide, and booking sites show much wider ranges, so rely on the fare in your itemised quote. Scheduled flights often stop at several airstrips, and Air Kenya warns that times to Lewa Downs and Loisaba can vary by up to 45 minutes.

Baggage is tight: both airlines allow 15 kg per person in soft bags, hand baggage included. Air Kenya sells extra freight seats at USD 5 per kg for up to 75 kg of excess. Driving saves the fare but not the day; Ol Pejeta advises a 4×4 in the rains. The 7-day Untamed Skies safari is built around flying, as its name says, from USD 3,700 per person.

What moves the total

  • Season: Elewana Lewa Safari Camp runs High (1 July to 31 October, 20 December to 3 January), Mid and Green (1 April to 31 May) bands.
  • Group size: vehicle costs are shared, so couples pay more per head than groups of four.
  • Children: Ol Pejeta charges half the adult fee for ages 3 to 11, and Borana’s child rate (ages 5 to 15) is half the adult rate.
  • Extras at Elewana Lewa Safari Camp (2026, per person): 4-hour walk USD 115, night game drive USD 120 (minimum 2), Ngare Ndare Forest visit USD 85 (minimum 4), cultural visit at Ngwesi USD 80, horse or camel safari USD 120 (minimum age 12). The 2-hour guided walk, USD 85, is included on its Game Package.
  • Routing: the 9-day northern Kenya circuit, from USD 7,840 per person, prices several stops in one quote.

Fees alone, for one day, work out as follows:

Group Ol Pejeta Lewa (Borana’s 2026 rate)
2 adults USD 220 USD 366
2 adults, 2 children USD 330 USD 550

These exclude the lodge, vehicle and flights. If the Mara is on your list, Masai Mara park fees and conservancy fees are explained separately, and our guide to what a Kenya safari really costs covers the wider picture.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Ol Pejeta entry fee?

Ol Pejeta lists USD 110 for a non-resident adult, USD 55 for a child aged 3 to 11 (under 3 free) and USD 32 for a student, per day. The page shows no effective date, so confirm the figure when you book.

What is the Lewa conservation fee?

About USD 165 to 183 per adult per day for non-residents in 2026, depending on the lodge. Borana’s sheet lists USD 183 for an adult and USD 92 for a child, then USD 200 and USD 100 in 2027. Lewa’s own site publishes no fee.

Are conservancy fees included in lodge rates?

Sometimes. Borana Lodge’s rate includes a 24 percent contribution to Borana Conservancy, but a visit to Lewa is extra. Elewana lists conservancy fees separately at Lewa Safari Camp. Ask for the fee as a line in your quote.

Is it cheaper to drive or fly to Laikipia?

Driving avoids a fare of roughly USD 150 to 400 each way per person (an estimate) and takes about 4 to 4.5 hours to Ol Pejeta. Flying takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes to Nanyuki, plus a transfer. At Lewa the lodge may meet you at the gate, because not every vehicle is allowed in.

When is Laikipia cheapest?

In 2026 Borana Lodge charges USD 1,025 per adult per night in its standard season (6 January to 14 June and 1 October to 19 December) against USD 1,320 in peak. Elewana Lewa Safari Camp also has a green season from 1 April to 31 May. Ask for the rate in each band.

Do children pay less?

At the places we checked, yes. Ol Pejeta charges USD 55 against USD 110 for ages 3 to 11, and Borana’s child rate is half the adult rate. Lewa’s child fee is USD 92. Some activities have minimum ages, such as 12 for horse and camel safaris at Elewana Lewa Safari Camp.
